Kylian Mbappé is on the verge of making history after moving within one goal of becoming France’s all-time leading scorer in their international friendly win over Brazil national football team.
The Real Madrid forward found the net in the 32nd minute, latching onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Ousmane Dembélé before calmly lifting his shot over goalkeeper Ederson.
According to BBC Sport, the strike took Mbappé’s international tally to 56 goals in 95 appearances, just one shy of the record 57 goals held by Olivier Giroud.
Returning to the starting lineup after recovering from a knee injury sustained during his time at Real Madrid, Mbappé displayed sharpness and attacking intent throughout the first half. He came close to adding to his tally but dragged two efforts wide before being substituted in the 66th minute for Marcus Thuram.
France’s task became more challenging in the second half when defender Dayot Upamecano was sent off for a last-man foul on Brazil full-back Wesley just outside the penalty area.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, the team, coached by Didier Deschamps, maintained control and doubled their lead in the 65th minute, with Hugo Ekitiké finishing from close range with a delicate chipped effort.
The victory highlighted France’s depth and resilience, but the spotlight remained firmly on Mbappé, who now stands on the brink of surpassing Giroud’s record — a milestone that appears only a matter of time.
