Senegal national football team are set to parade the Africa Cup of Nations trophy before their international friendly against Peru national football team in Paris, in a symbolic show of defiance following a controversial ruling.
The Lions of Teranga had initially secured their second AFCON title on January 18 after defeating Morocco national football team 1–0 after extra time in a tense final. The match ended in chaotic scenes, with Senegal players walking off the pitch after Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty while the game was still goalless.
However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) last week overturned the result, awarding Morocco a 3–0 victory — a decision that has sparked outrage in Senegalese football circles.
In response, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which confirmed receipt of the case on Tuesday and pledged to deliver a ruling as quickly as possible.
Speaking at a media conference in Paris, FSF President Abdoulaye Fall strongly condemned the decision, describing it as an “unprecedented administrative robbery” in football.
“Senegal will not bend the knee and will not compromise its values,” Fall declared, adding that the fight now goes beyond football.
Ahead of the friendly at the Stade de France, the federation also released a schedule of events that includes a trophy parade — a move seen as both symbolic and political amid the ongoing dispute.
The development sets the stage for heightened tension as Senegal continue their legal battle to reclaim the AFCON title.
