The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has denied reports of an alliance with any political party in the state or at the federal level, insisting that it remains committed to its opposition role ahead of the 2027 elections.

The state APC chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, stated this on Sunday in Umuahia during a stakeholders’ meeting to review the party’s activities.

Chukwu expressed concern over rumours allegedly being circulated by some members of the party, including what he described as “very high-ranking members” who had engaged in activities capable of undermining the party.

He said some members had made statements suggesting that the APC’s governorship candidate was a placeholder, while others claimed that the party had entered into an alliance with the ruling party in Abia State.

“We have heard all those things. Some have even said that the party has gone into an alliance or is holding an alliance with the ruling party in the state, that there is already an alliance between the ruling party in the state and the APC-led Federal Government,” Chukwu said.

He said as state chairman, he was in a position to know whether any such arrangement existed, adding that he had consulted stakeholders at the highest level.

“I want to tell you and assure you that there is no such unholy alliance and there never will be,” he stated.

The APC chairman further ruled out an alliance with the state’s ruling party, accusing the administration of imposing hardship on residents and failing to uphold accountability.

He also alleged that the state government had inflated contracts, awarded projects without due process and failed to adequately address the welfare of workers and pensioners.

Chukwu said the APC would instead be willing to support a coalition capable of providing what he described as responsible and accountable governance for Abia residents.

“We will go into a coalition that will give Abians what they deserve, and what Abians deserve is good government. A government that will be responsible to the people. A government that will pay its pensions,” he said.

He also called for better remuneration for workers, criticising the current level of earnings of some state civil servants.

Chukwu accused the state government of relying excessively on social media to project its achievements, arguing that its performance should instead be measured against developments in neighbouring states.

He maintained that the APC would not compromise its principles by entering into an alliance with what he described as a government that had failed Abians.

The APC chairman, however, said the party remained open to a coalition that would advance the interests of residents and provide good governance.

Chukwu assured party members that the APC was sufficiently organised and strong to win all the elections in Abia State in 2027.
