Abia APC Petitions National Leadership Over Alleged Diversion of Primary Election Materials

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the party’s national leadership, demanding a comprehensive investigation into the alleged diversion of sensitive electoral materials intended for the party’s National Assembly primary elections in the state.

In a petition dated May 25, 2026, and addressed to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the state’s Working Committee accused an ICT staff member at the party’s National Secretariat of allegedly collaborating with a former Abia South Senatorial aspirant to divert official result sheets designated for the primaries.

The petition, signed by Abia APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, described the alleged act as a serious breach of the party’s internal electoral process and an attempt to undermine the credibility of the primaries.

According to the state chapter, the incident occurred in the lead-up to the National Assembly primaries conducted in May. The party alleged that the staff member unlawfully removed sensitive election materials from the approved custody process and transferred them to an undisclosed location.

The petition further claimed that preliminary security findings linked the diverted materials to an alleged plan to generate alternative election results capable of influencing the outcome of the primaries.

The party also raised concerns over reports of alleged financial inducements connected to the operation.

“The unauthorised diversion of electoral materials from the approved chain of custody was not merely an administrative lapse but a calculated attempt to compromise the credibility of the party’s primary election process,” the petition stated.

Abia APC said concerns surrounding the missing materials prompted the National Assembly Primaries Committee, headed by Erasmus Cishak, to request a fresh batch of result sheets from the National Working Committee after the original materials were allegedly compromised.

Following the request, the National Working Committee reportedly approved and released new security-sealed electoral materials, which were subsequently used for the conduct of the senatorial primaries in the state.

As part of its demands, the Abia chapter urged the party’s national leadership to take disciplinary action against the official if found guilty, including dismissal from service.

The chapter also called for the matter to be referred to law enforcement agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In addition, it requested a comprehensive security audit of the ICT Department at the APC National Secretariat to strengthen safeguards and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The party warned that failure to thoroughly address the allegations could weaken confidence in the APC’s internal electoral processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
