The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has announced an emergency stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the House of Representatives primary election slated for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Aguoru, all stakeholders and aspirants were directed to attend the meeting scheduled to hold by 4:00 p.m. at the New Party Secretariat along Finbarr’s Road in Umuahia.
The party described attendance as compulsory, stating that the meeting would address issues relating to the commencement of the primary election later in the day.
According to the statement, party members and political stakeholders are expected to deliberate on critical matters concerning the conduct of the exercise as preparations for the primaries continue.
The development followed an earlier announcement by the party that the House of Representatives primaries would no longer begin as previously scheduled, a situation that reportedly created confusion among party members across the state.
Sources within the APC alleged that the delay may be linked to the seizure of sensitive election materials by a prominent stakeholder from Abia South Senatorial District since Friday. The incident was said to have heightened tension and uncertainty among aspirants and party faithful.
As of the time this report was filed, several party members were reportedly stranded at different venues awaiting further directives from party officials, while concerns continued to grow over the organisation and credibility of the exercise.
The situation has also drawn reactions from political observers, many of whom questioned the readiness of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 political contest in the state.
Some aggrieved party members who spoke anonymously expressed disappointment over the unfolding events, warning that internal disorganisation could weaken the APC’s chances against the administration of Alex Otti.
One party source told our correspondent that the development raised serious concerns about the party’s preparedness, arguing that failure to properly coordinate its own primaries could affect public confidence in its ability to govern.
