Traditional rulers from various communities in Ibeku Egwu Asaa, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, have moved to nullify a libation reportedly carried out against Governor Alex Otti by a former state commissioner, Charles Ogbonnaya.

Ogbonnaya, who previously served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, was seen in a viral video pouring water on the ground and lifting a kola nut while expressing displeasure over Governor Otti’s decision to operate from his private residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, rather than the Government House in Umuahia. He alleged that the move denied the ancestors of the land their rightful place in the affairs of the state.

In response, traditional rulers and community chiefs from Ibeku land gathered to perform another libation aimed at reversing and cancelling the earlier prayers and declarations made against the governor.

The monarchs, drawn from different parts of the Ibeku clan, described Ogbonnaya as a respected son of the land but stressed that his actions were carried out without their approval or consent.

They maintained that no individual has the authority to perform such traditional rites on behalf of the land without the knowledge and endorsement of the traditional custodians.

The rulers also expressed satisfaction with Governor Otti’s performance in office, warning against the use of Ibeku land and its traditions for political purposes.

“Our son carried out a role he was not authorized to perform. While he remains our distinguished son, the action he took was wrong and was never approved by us, the traditional rulers and custodians of the land,” the monarchs stated.

They added, “All evil words and libations spoken against Governor Alex Otti are hereby reversed. It shall be well with Governor Alex Otti.”
