The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has urged its personnel to continually update their skills and embrace modern security practices following the conclusion of a five-day capacity-building workshop for divisional commands across the state's 17 local government areas and heads of departments.

The workshop, themed "Technological Advancement in Security Management, Intelligence, Investigation, Prosecution, Threat Communication Networks," also featured sessions on rules of engagement and proper weapon handling.

Organised by the Abia State Command of the NSCDC in collaboration with the Abia State Government, the training focused on equipping officers with the knowledge and practical skills required to meet evolving security challenges.

Speaking at the event, Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Commander MacDonald Ubah (retd.), said the adoption of modern technology in security management is no longer optional but essential for addressing gaps in surveillance and strengthening the state's security architecture.

He noted that the capacity-building initiative reflects his administration's commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents through continuous investment in the professional development of security personnel.

Also speaking, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, represented by the Zonal Commander of Zone 5, covering Abia and Imo states, Mr. Ahmed Gandi, stressed the importance of discipline, teamwork, and professionalism.

He reminded officers that they occupy positions of public trust, with citizens relying on them to maintain safety, peace, and order, urging them to uphold the highest standards in the discharge of their duties.

In his remarks, the Abia State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Chukwuemeka Odimba, said the workshop was designed to expose participants to contemporary security strategies and modern operational techniques.

According to him, the training covered key areas including advancements in security management, intelligence gathering, information technology, innovation, threat assessment, and wireless communication networks to better prepare personnel for the demands of modern security operations.
