The Abia State Police Command has clarified that the armed security personnel seen in a viral video assaulting a lady and her brother at Okigwe on Monday were not police officers but community vigilante operatives.
The Command made the clarification following public outrage in Abia and Imo states over the assault of the two bus passengers who were travelling towards Abia State University, Uturu.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday evening.
Chinaka noted that Okigwe does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Abia State Police Command.
She further clarified that the armed men involved in the assault were not officers of the Abia State Police Command but vigilante operatives.
According to her, the vigilante operatives involved in the incident had already been apprehended.
