EMETU PLEDGES ABIA GOVERNMENT’S SUPPORT FOR ABA PROMISES KEPT CARNIVAL AND MUSIC FIESTA

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has pledged the state government's support for the second edition of the Aba Promises Kept Carnival and Music Fiesta, scheduled to take place from December 11 to 13, 2026, at the Abia State Polytechnic Main Campus Field, Aba.

Emetu made the commitment when he received a delegation of the Promises Kept Socio-Cultural Initiative, led by its founder and convener, Chief Onyeka Ernest Udeajah, during a courtesy visit to his office at Government House, Umuahia, yesterday.

The Deputy Governor, who accepted his nomination as one of the organisation's patrons, commended the initiative for creating opportunities for young people, particularly emerging musicians, artisans and other talented individuals, to showcase their abilities, gain recognition and develop their potential.

He described the carnival as a valuable platform for youth engagement and talent discovery, noting that many gifted young people only require the right opportunities and encouragement to make meaningful contributions to society.

“An initiative that creates opportunities for our young people to discover, develop and showcase their talents is highly commendable. Beyond entertainment, this carnival provides a positive platform for youth engagement, cultural expression and the promotion of our collective heritage. It is something that deserves encouragement and support,” Emetu said.

He also noted that the three-day event would give residents an opportunity to relax, relieve the pressures of daily activities and celebrate their cultural identity, particularly during the festive season.

Emetu congratulated the organisers on sustaining the initiative and assured them of the state government's support towards the successful hosting of the second edition. He expressed optimism that the programme would promote cultural unity, strengthen social interaction and stimulate economic activities in Aba and neighbouring communities.

Commenting on the changing atmosphere in Abia State, the Deputy Governor said the present administration had created an environment that encourages citizens to express their views, engage with government and participate actively in the development of the state.

He expressed anticipation for the carnival, which is themed “Uniting Heritage, Celebrating Progress,” and wished the organisers and participants a successful and hitch-free event.

“I am particularly pleased that initiatives such as this are emerging to bring our people together, showcase our cultural heritage and create opportunities for our youths. The government is committed to building a society where talent is encouraged, enterprise is supported and everyone has an opportunity to contribute to our collective progress,” he added.

Earlier, the founder and convener of the Promises Kept Socio-Cultural Initiative, Chief Onyeka Ernest Udeajah, explained that the delegation visited the Deputy Governor to formally inform him about the forthcoming carnival and invite him to participate as a distinguished guest.

Udeajah said the initiative was established to engage young people positively, discourage street idleness and provide platforms for upcoming artistes, artisans and other talented individuals to display their skills and abilities.

He disclosed that the three-day programme would feature talent hunts, cultural displays, parades and musical performances by established and emerging entertainers. According to him, the event is expected to attract more than 50,000 participants, including youth groups, cultural troupes, business leaders and other stakeholders.

He also announced that popular musical artistes, including Duncan Mighty, Ugoccie and Ada Zion, would perform alongside local entertainers.

The convener explained that the maiden edition, held in the previous year, provided the foundation for the expanded 2026 programme, which aims to deepen cultural awareness, promote emerging talents and strengthen community participation.

He appealed to the Deputy Governor to attend the event and offer the initiative fatherly guidance and support. Udeajah also formally announced the organisation's decision to appoint Emetu as one of its patrons.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ariaria International Market, Chief Paul Nmuojiuba, commended the Abia State Government for its ongoing road rehabilitation and infrastructure development efforts in Aba, describing the improvements as beneficial to traders, businesses and residents.

He disclosed that the market leadership had been working to improve the administration of the market, strengthen security and maintain a cordial relationship between traders and the state government.

Nmuojiuba further highlighted efforts to improve the market's working environment and encourage traders to participate in civic activities.

In his vote of thanks, the President of the Abia State Markets and Allied Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief A. E. Udeigbo, appreciated the Deputy Governor for receiving the delegation despite the short notice and granting their requests.

He reaffirmed the association's commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship with the Abia State Government.

The delegation also presented the Deputy Governor with customised carnival T-shirts and invitation materials during the visit.
