The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Wilfred Afolabi, has warned police officers against arresting individuals for offences committed by other persons, stressing that such practices will not be tolerated.
Afolabi gave the warning during a strategic meeting with the management team and Area Commanders of the Abia State Police Command. He also cautioned officers against extorting members of the public while performing their official duties.
According to the police commissioner, the meeting was organised to strengthen supervision, discipline, professionalism and accountability across the command.
He announced that the X Squad of the Abia State Police Command would monitor officers to ensure compliance with professional standards and proper conduct in the discharge of their duties.
Afolabi also directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure that crime maps were provided at their respective formations. He extended the directive to Area Intelligence Officers (AIOs) and Divisional Intelligence Officers (DIOs).
The commissioner further instructed that the crime maps be updated daily to improve crime mapping, intelligence gathering and proactive policing across the state.
In addition, he ordered that security arrangements at police stations be strengthened through improved station guard operations.
While emphasising the need for strict compliance with the Nigeria Police Force's social media policy, Afolabi reiterated the command's commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring the safety and security of residents across Abia State.
