The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Chris Nkwonta a 14-day ultimatum to publicly apologise for remarks the party considers anti-party, warning that failure to do so could result in disciplinary action.

The decision was reached by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC), led by Chijioke Chukwu, during a meeting held in Umuahia on Wednesday.

The development followed Kalu’s comments on national television that Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) would win re-election in 2027. It also came after Nkwonta, speaking at a reception for the President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Ukwa East, stated that he intended to vote for Otti.

In a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the SWC unanimously described the two statements as unstatesmanlike, embarrassing and harmful to the party’s unity and electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party said such actions violated Article 21.2(11) of the APC Constitution, which provides for disciplinary measures against members whose conduct undermines the party.

The SWC therefore directed both lawmakers to tender unreserved public apologies within 14 days, stressing that their statements must demonstrate their commitment to the APC and its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party warned that failure to comply with the directive within the stipulated period would lead to the establishment of a disciplinary committee to recommend appropriate sanctions.

The Abia APC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining party unity and securing victory in the governorship election and all legislative seats in the state in 2027.
