The Labour Party (LP) has recorded a fresh political gain in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State following the defection of a large number of members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the party.
The defectors, drawn from different wards and communities across Ohafia, officially joined the Labour Party at a gathering attended by party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters. The event highlighted the party’s growing influence and support base in Abia North.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, the leader of the group said their decision was driven by what they described as the transformational leadership of Governor Alex Otti and the people-oriented governance style of Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu.
According to him, the administration’s achievements across key sectors have strengthened public confidence in government and attracted individuals who share a vision for progress and development.
The defectors commended Governor Otti for implementing reforms and development projects across the state, while also praising Deputy Governor Emetu for his continued engagement with grassroots communities and commitment to the interests of Abia North and the state as a whole.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu thanked the new members for choosing the Labour Party and assured them of equal opportunities within the party structure.
He urged them to remain committed to the party’s ideals and contribute actively to efforts aimed at building a more prosperous Abia State.
Emetu stated that the Labour Party remains a platform for individuals committed to service, accountability, and sustainable development, encouraging the defectors to promote the party’s vision in their respective communities.
The event also featured the formal presentation of Labour Party membership cards and party insignia to the new members, who expressed their support for the administration through chants and solidarity messages.
Party stakeholders described the development as a significant boost to the Labour Party’s grassroots presence in Ohafia, noting that it would further strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future political contests.
The gathering ended with a pledge by both existing members and the new entrants to work together in advancing the administration’s development agenda and supporting the vision of Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu for Abia State.
