The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has congratulated the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service, describing their emergence as recognition of competence, dedication and meritorious service.

In a congratulatory message, Emetu said the appointments should be a source of pride to the new Permanent Secretaries, their families, colleagues and the communities they represent.

He said the successful candidates distinguished themselves during the 2026 Permanent Secretary Selection Exercise and urged them to view their new positions not only as an honour but also as a responsibility to the people of Abia State.

The Deputy Governor also commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for sustaining what he described as a merit-based selection process in the state civil service.

According to Emetu, the process reflects the governor’s emphasis on professionalism, competence and excellence in public service.

He said the appointment of the new Permanent Secretaries should encourage other civil servants to remain committed to hard work, diligence and continuous professional development, with competence and merit serving as important factors in career advancement.

Emetu charged the newly appointed officials to justify the confidence placed in them by the governor and the people of the state by applying their experience, knowledge and expertise effectively in their respective ministries.

He further urged them to uphold integrity, accountability, discipline and professionalism while ensuring that government policies and programmes produce tangible benefits for Abians.

The Deputy Governor also offered prayers for Governor Otti, asking God to preserve him, grant him good health, wisdom, strength and divine protection as he continues to lead the state.
