The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested more than 300 suspects during operations at various crime-prone locations across Abuja, including uncompleted buildings.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Saturday while parading the suspects.

Sanusi said some of those arrested were allegedly using scavenging activities as a cover to commit crimes, including breaking into parked vehicles and stealing phones and handbags from residents.

According to the police commissioner, some suspects were also found occupying uncompleted buildings across the Federal Capital Territory without lawful permission or identifiable means of livelihood.

He warned people involved in criminal activities in the capital to leave voluntarily or risk being repatriated to their states of origin after due screening.

Sanusi said uncompleted structures should not be used as hideouts for criminals, stressing that their unfinished status did not give people the right to occupy them illegally.

He explained that the arrested suspects would undergo screening to determine the appropriate action against each person.

While some would be taken to court to face charges where sufficient grounds exist, others who are identified for repatriation would be returned to their states of origin.

The commissioner said those slated for prosecution would remain in police custody pending the completion of the necessary procedures.

Sanusi also assured residents that the security operation across the FCT would continue, describing the raids as an ongoing exercise rather than a one-off operation.

He said police personnel would continue to target suspected hideouts and scavenger locations, particularly those operating from uncompleted buildings.

According to him, the operation followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police to reduce criminal activities in the nation’s capital as much as possible.

The commissioner said the command would sustain the raids as part of efforts to improve security across the FCT.
