Eric Opah Campaign Dismisses Claims Ahead of Abia APC Governorship Primary

The Campaign Organisation of Chief Eric Opah has dismissed what it described as a “panic-driven publication” allegedly circulated by a faceless group ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Abia State scheduled for May 21, 2026.

In a statement, the organisation claimed the publication was sponsored by individuals allegedly unsettled by Opah’s growing influence in the race for the APC governorship ticket.

According to the campaign team, although it initially intended to ignore the claims, it decided to respond in order to clarify issues for party members and the general public.

The organisation stated that the APC National Working Committee had cleared all three governorship aspirants from Abia State, adding that obtaining a membership card through the party’s e-registration portal remained one of the standard requirements for contesting elective positions within the APC.

It further noted that during a pre-primary stakeholders’ meeting held at the new Abia APC Secretariat, the State Working Committee confirmed in its report that all governorship and House of Representatives aspirants successfully passed the screening process, while only one State House of Assembly aspirant failed to qualify.

The campaign described attempts to question Opah’s status in the race as “propaganda” allegedly aimed at misleading supporters and discouraging them from participating in the primary election.

It maintained that Chief Eric Opah remains fully cleared and actively participating in the contest.

The organisation therefore urged APC members in the state to disregard the claims and continue mobilising support for the aspirant ahead of the primary election.
