The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has inaugurated its Senior and Junior Disciplinary Committees, Safe School Committee and Personnel Studying Approval Committee.

The command also commissioned three refurbished Hilux operational vehicles provided by the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to support its activities across the state.

Speaking during the ceremony in Umuahia on Wednesday, the State Commandant, Chukwuemeka Odimba, charged members of the committees to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and without bias.

Odimba reminded them that their decisions could have significant implications for the careers, welfare and professional development of other personnel.

“You have been entrusted with responsibilities that can directly affect the careers, welfare and professional growth of your colleagues. Therefore, avoid personal interests, bias, favouritism and any form of conduct that may compromise the integrity of the committees,” he advised.

The commandant urged the committee members to keep accurate records, maintain confidentiality and submit their reports promptly.

He also tasked them with ensuring that their recommendations were clear and aligned with the ethics, rules and regulations of the corps.

Odimba expressed confidence that the members would use their experience, commitment and sense of responsibility to discharge their duties effectively and contribute to the smooth administration of the state command.

Otti Provides More Vehicles for NSCDC

While commissioning the operational vehicles, Odimba, who spoke on behalf of the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for his support to the command.

He described the governor's intervention as significant, noting that the three vehicles would enhance the corps' ability to carry out its assignments.

“In less than six months, he has been able to provide us with five vehicles to carry out our assignments, and he has also promised to provide the remaining 10 vehicles and also give us new vehicles because he appreciates the importance of security,” he said.

The commandant recalled several other forms of support provided by the governor to the NSCDC Abia Command.

These, he said, included the provision of water, an observation point and more than 20 plots of land for the construction of a permanent headquarters.

He added that the governor had also sponsored NSCDC personnel to participate in capacity-building programmes.

Speaking on behalf of the committees, the Chairman and Deputy Commandant, Operations, Ogota Emmanuel, assured residents that the corps would continue to work towards making Abia safe for everyone.
