The newly elected governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, has outlined his vision for the state following his victory in the party’s primary election.
Anosike emerged victorious on Sunday after polling 16,543 votes to defeat his closest challenger, John Okiyi Kalu, who secured 3,145 votes, while Kelechi Mba garnered 971 votes.
Speaking after the election, Anosike said his administration would prioritise the welfare of the people through policies aimed at improving living conditions and economic opportunities across the state.
“There is no doubt that our government, when we return, will be a caring government,” he said. “We care for the people, and the policies we pursue will be people-first policies.”
He stated that tackling hunger and improving food production would be one of the major priorities of his administration, stressing that no resident of the state should go to bed hungry.
According to him, the proposed “Operation Feed the Abian” (OFA) programme will serve as a back-to-farm initiative designed to boost agricultural production and ensure food sufficiency in the state.
Anosike also promised that his government would pay salaries above the approved minimum wage, adding that Abia has the resources to prosper if properly managed.
“Abia State is not poor; it has only been poorly managed,” he said, while assuring residents that his administration would remain responsive to their needs.
The PDP candidate further dedicated his victory to young people seeking opportunities, women demanding greater inclusion, and business owners in need of financial support.
“This victory is for the youths who are craving opportunities in the state,” he stated. “The time has come to give them a sense of belonging.”
He also pledged support for women and entrepreneurs through policies that would encourage inclusion and provide access to microcredit facilities for small businesses.
Anosike added that the party remains open to alliances and collaboration with individuals and political groups willing to work towards the development of Abia State.
