Two Die While Cleaning Sewage in Abia

Two men have died while manually evacuating sewage at Power Line, off Omuma Road, Aba, Abia State.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026.
The Abia State Orientation Agency disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Friday, warning residents against the manual evacuation of sewage, which it described as illegal and dangerous.
“Residents are strongly advised to desist from manual evacuation of sewage, as the practice is both illegal and dangerous.
“This notice follows the tragic loss of two men who died while evacuating sewage manually at Power Line, off Omuma Road, Aba on Monday 10 August 2026,” the agency said.
The agency urged residents and property owners to use approved sewage evacuation services to prevent further loss of lives.
“Residents and property owners are urged to use approved sewage evacuation services and avoid putting lives at risk,” it added.
It also advised residents and businesses to obtain waste buckets from approved vendors and ensure they are properly used for waste collection.
“Also, residents and businesses are advised to get their waste buckets from approved vendors and use them properly for waste collection. Avoid littering and illegal dumping,” the statement said.
The agency further stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment, reminding residents that cleanliness benefits both individuals and their loved ones.
“Your cleanliness is not just for you but for your loved ones,” it stated.
