‘Watch Us in 14 Days’ — Otti Promises Fast-Track Solar Power Rollout in Abia

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has pledged to fast-track the deployment of renewable energy projects in the state in collaboration with the Federal Government, promising significant progress within the next two weeks.

Otti gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and other federal agencies at the Government House in Umuahia.

The governor said his administration was committed to resolving all outstanding operational issues and activating existing agreements with the Federal Government to improve electricity supply for residents of the state.

"Just watch us and see what will happen in the next 14 days. You can be sure that you will hear from us within the next 14 days, and the lowest-hanging fruit is this initiative covering ten states," Otti said.

Speaking during the visit, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, disclosed that the Federal Government had completed the mapping of communities across the country to identify areas requiring rural electrification.

He added that the government is currently deploying 1,000 mini-grid projects across different states as part of efforts to improve electricity access and address the nation's power supply challenges.

The development comes amid ongoing electricity challenges in parts of Abia State.

Recall that the Abia State House of Assembly recently expressed concern over the prolonged blackout affecting areas served by Aba Power Limited, with the electricity provider attributing the disruption to a shortage of gas supply.
