Residents of Umuokereke Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State have been thrown into shock following the alleged stabbing death of a man by his wife.

The woman, identified as Innocent Serah, allegedly stabbed her husband, Innocent Nwaọjị, to death on Saturday night.

The circumstances surrounding the incident and what may have led to the alleged stabbing remain unclear. However, it was gathered that Nwaọjị was allegedly attacked while he was asleep.

A member of the community, David Amaraizu, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with journalists on Sunday, describing the development as shocking to residents.

According to Amaraizu, the couple got married in December 2025 and had been married for barely eight months before the incident.

“We are not aware of any disagreement between the couple before the incident. The woman had been arrested and is currently in police custody, while the deceased’s body had been deposited at a morgue,” he said.

When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer in Abia State, Maureen Chinaka, said she would get back to journalists.

However, an official response from the police was still being awaited as of the time of filing this report.

The incident comes months after a similar case was reported in Umuahia, the state capital.

In February 2026, the Abia State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a woman who allegedly stabbed her husband, an Immigration officer, to death following an allegation of infidelity.

The then Commissioner of Police in the state, Danladi Isa, said the suspect was arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department for questioning over a murder case.
