2027: Labour Party Confirms Otti as Abia Governorship Candidate After Primary Election

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has officially affirmed Governor Alex Otti as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
Otti, who contested as the sole aspirant in the party’s primary election conducted on Saturday, secured a total of 368,213 votes to emerge as the party’s flag bearer.
The outcome of the exercise was announced by the Labour Party’s Returning Officer in Abia State, Mrs. Oluchi Opara.
The primary election was conducted across the state’s 184 political wards and recorded significant participation from party members. The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security agencies.
For the Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate for Abia South Senatorial District, while Ogba David Onuoha secured the ticket for Abia North. Darlington Nwokocha was returned as the party’s candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District.
Speaking after receiving his Certificate of Return, Governor Otti expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primary election, describing it as peaceful, orderly, and free from violence.
He commended members of the party for their efforts in maintaining unity, particularly during periods of internal challenges faced by the Labour Party.
The governor also urged all candidates who emerged from the primaries to intensify their efforts ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing the need to work collectively to secure victory for the party across the state.
