A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Comrade Emmanuel Nwokonna, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Abia State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwokonna, who hails from Umuezike Ofeme in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, is seeking to secure the PDP ticket for the state legislature, presenting himself as a credible aspirant capable of delivering victory for the party.
In campaign materials already circulating, the House of Assembly hopeful described himself as the “winning choice” for PDP delegates, expressing confidence in his ability to provide quality representation and strengthen the party’s chances in the next elections.
The aspirant, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Marketing, said his ambition is motivated by a desire to drive grassroots development and improve the welfare of constituents through responsive lawmaking and effective representation.
He identified infrastructure development, youth empowerment, job creation, healthcare, education, agriculture, industrialisation, and security as major priorities in his proposed legislative agenda.
Nwokonna also pledged to sponsor and support laws aimed at improving workers’ welfare, pension reforms, and accountability in governance if elected.
Describing himself as a public affairs analyst and business turnaround expert, he highlighted his long-standing loyalty to the PDP, noting that he has remained committed to the party since 2005.
Supporters of the aspirant said his entry into the race signals a shift from what they described as “politics as usual,” adding that he has the capacity to introduce fresh ideas and purposeful leadership at the Abia State House of Assembly.
The Ofeme-born politician, who also has maternal roots in Isuikwuato Local Government Area, is expected to join other aspirants in what observers believe could become a highly competitive PDP primary ahead of the 2027 elections.
His declaration comes as political consultations and activities continue to gain momentum across Abia State in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
