An Abia-based support group, the Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of the Umuwanwa Bridge in Abia State, describing the project as a significant step toward addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges in the Southeast.

The group said the bridge, which was destroyed during the Nigerian Civil War in 1967, had remained unreconstructed for nearly six decades until the current intervention by the Federal Government.

The commendation was contained in a communiqué issued after the forum’s State Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday in Umuahia.

According to the group, the reconstruction of the bridge demonstrates the administration’s commitment to equitable development and the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure across the country.

“Of historic significance, the forum acknowledges the Federal Government’s approval for the reconstruction of the Umuwanwa Ancient Bridge, destroyed during the Nigerian Civil War in 1967 and left unattended for over five decades,” the communiqué stated.

The statement was jointly signed by the forum’s State Chairman, Nwaogazi Nwankwo; State Secretary, Anayo Chukwu; and State Public Relations Officer, Ndubuisi Anya.

The group also highlighted other federal infrastructure projects currently underway in the Southeast, including rehabilitation works along the Aba–Port Harcourt section of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.

It further commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for what it described as sustained efforts to improve road infrastructure across the region.

The forum urged Nigerians, especially first-time and newly eligible voters, to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and actively participate in future elections.

On the issue of the 2027 Abia governorship election, the group clarified that it had not endorsed any aspirant and would only take a position based on directives from its national leadership and relevant political stakeholders.

The forum also announced plans to host the 2026 Asiwaju Summit in Enugu in July next year.

According to the group, the summit will provide an opportunity to showcase projects executed by the Tinubu administration in the Southeast while promoting greater public engagement with government policies and programmes.

It stated that the event would focus on accountability, policy awareness, and strengthening political inclusion within the region.

The meeting concluded with a call on Ndi Igbo to become more actively involved in the political process, stressing that increased participation would enhance the region’s influence and improve access to federal development opportunities.
