A senatorial aspirant in Edo South under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinwa, has expressed deep regret over his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress, saying his political switch has left him in a worse situation.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News programme News Day on Friday, the former House of Representatives member said his experience in the new party has been disappointing and far from what he expected.

Agbonayinwa alleged that although he participated in the party’s primary election and believed he had secured the senatorial ticket, he is now being excluded from appearing on the ballot.

He further claimed that the national leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, encouraged him to purchase the nomination form for the Senate race, only to later deny any such conversation.

Describing his situation, he said his move from the APC to the NDC has been regrettable, adding that internal disagreements and lack of clarity within the party have created confusion around the primary process.

According to him, party stakeholders had attempted to reach a consensus during the primaries, but no agreement was reached as contestants refused to step down for one another.

He also noted that the primary election was conducted on May 29, but as of June 5, the process and preparations for the general election remain unclear.

Agbonayinwa maintained that his political journey has never experienced such difficulties in his previous parties, adding that the current situation has left him frustrated.

He explained that while he initially considered contesting for the House of Representatives, he later opted for the Senate following encouragement he said he received, before subsequent disagreements emerged over the nomination process.

The aspirant added that he remains confused by conflicting statements from party leaders, particularly regarding whether he was actually advised to contest under the NDC platform.
