Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reportedly been banned from performing in Edo State following his public exchange with the state governor, Monday Okpebholo.

The development followed a disagreement between the singer and the governor over the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

Okpebholo, a member of the All Progressives Congress, had during the party’s campaign for its Osun governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, criticised the performance of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Edo governor alleged that Adeleke’s dancing had become a distraction from governance.

Davido subsequently responded in an Instagram post, mocking Okpebholo over his academic performance by sharing what he described as the governor’s WAEC result.

Following Adeleke’s victory in the election, Davido, while speaking in an interview with News Central, said he had no intention of apologising to Okpebholo.

The singer maintained that the governor had no right to attack Adeleke, whom he described as a sitting governor performing better than Okpebholo.

Davido also addressed the controversy in an open letter posted on Instagram, challenging the Edo governor to prepare for further confrontation.

The development has now reportedly resulted in the singer being barred from performing in Edo State.
