The Abia State Police Command has apprehended two suspects for allegedly vandalising and stealing government property along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli Road corridor.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

She identified the suspects as Emmanuel Ogonna, 23, and Ifeanychukwu Oko, 25, both residents of Lohom in Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

According to the police, a number of items suspected to have been stolen from government facilities were recovered from the suspects. The recovered materials include 49 pieces of angle irons, two saws, three spanners, three small iron boards, and 86 electrical poles.

Chinaka said the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence gathered by the police.

“Leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters, along Uzuakoli Road on 19/06/2026, during a stop-and-search operation along Uzuakoli Road, apprehended the above-mentioned suspects in an auto-rickshaw (Keke Napep) and recovered from them the items, all suspected to have been vandalised and stolen,” the statement read.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects allegedly confessed to vandalising and stealing the recovered materials during interrogation.

She noted that the matter has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting public assets and carrying out its constitutional responsibility of preventing and detecting crime.

He also called on residents to support law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting suspicious individuals and activities in their communities to the nearest police station.

The command assured the public that it would continue to intensify efforts to combat vandalism, theft, and other criminal activities across the state.
