Nigeria's Super Falcons delivered a sensational attacking performance on Wednesday, defeating Egypt 6-2 to secure qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The defending champions went into their final Group C fixture needing victory after recovering from an opening defeat to Malawi with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Zambia. The emphatic result sealed their place in the knockout stage as they continue their quest for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.

Playing at the Rabat Olympic Stadium, Justine Madugu's side produced one of the standout performances of the group stage, overwhelming the Pharaohs with six goals in a commanding display.

Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the lead in the 21st minute from the penalty spot before Gift Monday doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time after being set up by Rinsola Babajide.

Egypt pulled one back moments later through Nadine Ghazi, who converted a penalty deep into first-half added time to reduce the deficit to 2-1 before the break.

The Super Falcons returned for the second half with renewed intensity and quickly reasserted their dominance.

Babajide registered her second assist of the evening when she teed up Uchenna Kanu to make it 3-1 in the 57th minute. Christy Ucheibe then converted another penalty in the 81st minute to extend Nigeria's lead.

Although Ghazi scored her second goal of the match three minutes later to give Egypt brief hope, Nigeria responded immediately. Rasheedat Ajibade calmly converted another penalty to restore the three-goal advantage before providing the assist for Joy Omewa, who completed the scoring in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

The convincing victory completed a remarkable turnaround for the Super Falcons after their surprise 3-2 defeat to tournament debutants Malawi in their opening game.

Madugu's team finished the group stage with six points following back-to-back victories over Zambia and Egypt.

However, Nigeria finished second in Group C as Malawi claimed top spot after edging Zambia 2-1 in the other group fixture. Malawi, Nigeria and Zambia all ended the group stage with six points, but Malawi secured first place on the tiebreak criteria, while Zambia were eliminated.

Egypt finished bottom of the group without a point, having lost all three matches and conceded 15 goals.

With qualification secured and confidence restored, the Super Falcons now turn their attention to the quarter-finals as they continue their pursuit of another Women's Africa Cup of Nations crown.
