EPL: Bruno Fernandes Blames Man Utd Players for 2-0 Defeat to Hull City

Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has criticised his teammates for repeatedly giving away possession during their 2-0 defeat to Hull City in their Premier League opener.

Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored for Hull City as the Tigers secured a notable victory over the Red Devils.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes said Manchester United had repeated mistakes that had affected the team during the previous season, particularly their inability to retain possession in away matches.

“Same mistakes as we did last season, every away game we give too much of the ball to them,” Fernandes said.

He noted that Hull City dominated possession during the early stages of the match, with United goalkeeper having the most touches in the opening 20 minutes.

“In the first 20 minutes, the goalkeeper was the one with the most touches,” he added.

Fernandes also called for greater intensity and aggression from his teammates, while stressing the need to improve their defending during set pieces.

“We needed to press more, be more aggressive, and then again we need to work on set-plays and not concede these type of goals,” he said.

According to the United captain, the team was aware before the match that set pieces would be an important part of Hull City's approach.

“Against these types of teams, they are waiting for that moment,” he said.

“We knew before the game set-pieces would be a big part of their game. They played all pre-season with a back four but had a five against us for some height, for these moments.”

Fernandes described the defeat as particularly frustrating for Manchester United.

“The most frustrating thing is that we lost the game,” he said.
