The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced enforcement of the ban on tinted glass vehicles as part of renewed efforts to curb rising criminal activities, particularly those linked to “one-chance” operators within Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Abuja on Friday.

Sanusi explained that vehicles with tinted windows, covered or concealed number plates, and unregistered vehicles have increasingly been used by criminal elements operating within the capital city to carry out illegal activities.

According to him, intelligence reports show that many of these suspects deliberately rely on such vehicles to hide their identities, avoid detection, and frustrate law enforcement operations.

He described the situation as a serious threat to public safety, noting that it has become necessary for the police to take decisive action.

The Commissioner said the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, had directed the FCT Command to begin a comprehensive enforcement operation targeting vehicles violating existing regulations.

He stressed that the operation is not aimed at inconveniencing law-abiding citizens who have obtained legitimate approval to use tinted glass, but rather to prevent criminals from exploiting such modifications to conceal their activities.

According to him, more than 30 vehicles with tinted glass, obscured number plates, and improper registration have already been impounded as part of the ongoing enforcement exercise.

He added that the owners and operators of the affected vehicles will be prosecuted in line with the Laws of the Federation and the FCT Road Transport Regulations (2023).

The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring that criminal elements do not exploit vehicle modifications to undermine security within the nation’s capital.
