The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take seriously the concerns raised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the worsening insecurity in the country.

Atiku made the call on Wednesday, urging the President to implement the recommendations put forward by CAN while still in office.

The Christian body had earlier condemned the rising wave of kidnappings nationwide and demanded the immediate release of abducted school children, while also calling for stronger action to address insecurity.

Reacting in a post on X, Atiku said he had read CAN’s communiqué from the 2026 National Church Leaders Summit and expressed agreement with its concerns over the safety of Nigerians.

He noted that the group’s call for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security architecture, improved intelligence gathering, stronger inter-agency cooperation, and greater accountability in the fight against terrorism and violent crime aligns with his own position on the issue.

Atiku blamed what he described as the failure of the current administration for the worsening security situation, saying insecurity has continued to affect Nigerians regardless of religion or ethnicity.

He commended CAN for speaking out on the issue and encouraged other religious organisations, including Muslim groups, to join in demanding urgent action from the government.

According to him, Nigeria’s security challenges require collective pressure and accountability from all stakeholders.

Atiku further urged President Tinubu to reflect deeply on the recommendations and move beyond rhetoric in addressing the crisis, adding that decisive action is needed in the remaining period of his administration.
